Roma Civil Monitor has published a new transnational thematic report titled “Roma Equality and Inclusion in Europe’s Green Transition: Energy Poverty in Czechia, Hungary, Ireland, and Slovakia“, authored by Eva Schwab. This comprehensive report explores the intersection of Roma equality and the ongoing green transition in Europe, focusing on the issue of energy poverty in four European countries.

Energy poverty, a critical issue affecting vulnerable populations, is particularly acute among Roma communities. The report offers in-depth case studies from Czechia, Hungary, Ireland, and Slovakia, highlighting the unique challenges Roma populations face due to inadequate access to energy-efficient housing and affordable energy services.

In addition to analysing existing policies, the report provides recommendations for integrating Roma equality into national energy strategies. It emphasises the need for targeted measures that address the specific vulnerabilities of Roma communities, advocating for inclusive policies that ensure no one is left behind in Europe’s green transition.

This report, part of the Roma Civil Monitoring initiative, is a vital resource for policymakers, civil society organisations, and stakeholders involved in Roma inclusion and environmental justice. It aims to guide future policies that will bridge the gap between energy poverty and Roma equality, fostering a more just and inclusive green transition across Europe.

The report has been developed by Eva Schwab from CEU Democracy Institute with contributions of Mr Jan Husák (Romodrom, Czechia), and the Community Center for Minorities, Veľký Krtíš, Slovakia.
